The work,
first.
The room,
quietly second.
Maison Orel is a private gallery in Mayfair representing eleven contemporary painters and one printmaker — shown by appointment, sold slowly, and lived with for a long time.

"I opened Maison Orel because the rooms I loved most were never the loud ones. We hang fewer works than we could, light them more carefully than we have to, and we are not in a hurry for them to leave."
Twelve painters,
one printmaker.
Our roster is small by intention. Each artist is shown twice in a decade — once to introduce, once to deepen. Estates and studio sales are handled in confidence by the same team.
Slow, monumental colour-field paintings in oil and beeswax.
Portraiture rebuilt around chiaroscuro and the long sitting.
Forty years of one brushstroke. Sumi-e at the threshold of nothing.
Atmospheric desert paintings worked entirely from memory.
Painted weather — heat, smoke, the inside of a furnace.
Mixed-media reliefs from linen, wax, found pigments and gold.

A second room,
held back.
Behind the public gallery, a small room is reserved for serious enquiries — one work at a time, drawn from secondary-market holdings, estates, and works not yet ready to leave the studio.

In conversation with the field.
Among the most considered new private galleries in London — a room that breathes around the work.
Orel has built her programme the way her artists build a painting: slowly, and with no wasted gesture.
A small gallery that thinks like an institution.
